On July 23rd, Pixie Hoops launched our first group of Hoopdance Instructors out into the community, 8 amazing women, are now trained to teach our “Begin To Spin” classes to enthusiastic hoopers around the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island.

It was an amazing day, spent soaking up the sunshine on the patio of the Scotia Bank Dance Center in the heart of downtown Vancouver. Up on the 7th floor, we also got to do some hooping in the studio, with the perfect summer light shining in through the windows.

It was a exceptional experience to have many of our regular students join us for the training as they are now ready to launch their own Hoopdance Instructor careers and take their hooping to the next level. As  hoopdance teachers we continue learning about a whole secondary side of hoopdance, learning more about the human body, expanding our language and vocabulary around moves and tricks, and gathering a deeper understanding of body rhythm and movement. As instructors we have the opportunity to help our students reach their goals, have break-throughs and keep motivated – overall teaching Hoopdance turns out to be a pretty rewarding job!

Teaching teachers – what an epic experience for us at Pixie Hoops – to take nearly 10 years of hooping knowledge and teaching experience and distill it down into an 8 hour course and a giant Pixie manual. Everyone was so studious and dedicated – the cutest Pixies – taking notes and practicing as we progressed throughout the day.

The manual was designed to set our new instructors on a path to success! We covered the “Teachers Toolkit”, trouble shooting for new students, the Pixie Hoops Warm Up and Cool Down stretch sequence, and went step by step through breaking down tricks and planning class outlines. If that wasn’t enough, we also talked musicality and playlists for classes, practiced our teaching language, cues, and voice projection.

We magically found some extra time in the day to teach each-other some of our new favorite tricks ~ pictured above is Cora Schiller, from Shasta Hoops, teaching some matrix inspired, sliding isolations.

All in all, we couldn’t have planned a more stellar and successful day! A group of awesome ladies and 8 hours of hooping focused learning – how else would you rather spend a sunny, summer Saturday?

Look for our Pixie Hoops Hoopdance Instructors classes coming soon to: Victoria, Laskiti and the Sunshine Coast, as well as various locations around Vancouver.

We can’t wait to book the next training session – and we hope to be bringing our training to teachers across Canada by the summer of 2012.

We are super stoked to be launching the Pixie Hoops Network ~ After almost 10 years of hooping and teaching hoopdance it is going to be an amazing opportunity to get to share the Pixie Hoops Begin to Spin teaching format with our first batch of instructors this weekend!
